In today’s digital economy, data protection is no longer optional, it is fundamental to customer trust and business sustainability. For an Internet Service Provider like FiberOne, which serves thousands of users across Nigeria, safeguarding customer data is as important as delivering fast and reliable connectivity.
This week, FiberOne took an important step in reinforcing that commitment by paying a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) headquarters in Abuja. The delegation, led by our Head of Regulatory & Public Relations, Mr. Kenny Joda, was warmly received by the National Commissioner and his team.
Why Data Protection Matters to Us
Every click, every message, every online transaction that passes through our network carries something priceless: our customers’ data. For us, data protection is more than compliance — it’s about trust. And trust is the currency that keeps our relationship with customers strong.
The NDPA 2023 provides the framework that guides how organizations in Nigeria handle data. For FiberOne, aligning with this framework means two things:
Safeguarding customer information with integrity and transparency.
Building confidence in our services as a trusted Internet Service Provider.
Key Outcomes from the Visit
During our engagement with the NDPC, several themes stood out:
- Collaboration for Stronger Compliance
We explored how FiberOne can work closely with the Commission to align our practices with the NDPA 2023 and set industry-leading standards. - Trust as a Cornerstone
The National Commissioner emphasized that trust is the foundation of every data-driven business. FiberOne shares this belief ; we know that the stronger our compliance, the stronger our customers’ trust in us. - Capacity Building and Training
Discussions also touched on the domestication and certification of Data Protection Officers (DPOs), which will professionalize the sector and strengthen internal capacity. - Opportunities for Growth
The data protection ecosystem is creating new employment opportunities and expanding the talent pool. FiberOne is keen to play an active role in supporting this growth, while ensuring our operations remain compliant.
FiberOne’s engagement with the NDPC marks another milestone in our journey to becoming not just a service provider, but a trusted digital partner. By embedding a strong culture of compliance, we aim to:
Protect the privacy and rights of our customers.
Sustain confidence in our operations.
Lead the industry in responsible data governance.
As we move forward, one thing is clear: data protection is customer protection. And at FiberOne, protecting our customers will always remain at the heart of everything we do.
